The Ministry of Disabled People – Whaikaha, is inviting applications to support innovative ideas that improve access for Deaf and disabled people, Turi Māori, tāngata whaikaha Māori, and their whānau.
The programme focuses on key areas including transport, digital services, the built environment, and emergency management, with the objective of finding and growing solutions that enhance accessibility for communities across New Zealand.
Successful applicants will receive funding ranging from $25,000 to $100,000, along with mentoring and project support from May to June 2026, culminating in a progress showcase in late June to highlight developments and achievements.
The programme invites applications from disabled-led groups and collectives, Māori organisations and iwi entities, NGOs, social enterprises, startups, SMEs, and partnerships that combine lived experience with delivery capability. Individuals may apply through a fundholder, and private companies can participate if they are a legal entity meeting contracting requirements.
This pilot programme aims to harness the knowledge and insight of Deaf and disabled communities nationwide, fostering the development of practical, impactful accessibility solutions that can be implemented to improve daily life and opportunities for all.
