The European Commission has announced its Innovation Fund to support highly innovative, disruptive, and breakthrough technologies that can deliver the deep decarbonisation required to achieve climate neutrality.
The focus is on transformative solutions with the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The call is supported by a substantial budget, with an estimated total allocation of 2.9 billion euros. Subject to resource availability, this amount may be increased by up to 20 percent. Within this overall framework, a dedicated budget of 300 million euros is allocated to this specific topic, enabling support for ambitious, high-impact projects.
Funded projects must demonstrate long-term viability and readiness for implementation. Beneficiaries are expected to reach financial close within four years after the grant agreement is signed. In addition, supported projects must operate for a minimum of three years after entering into operation to allow for effective monitoring of greenhouse gas emission reductions.
Eligibility for this call is broad and open to applicants worldwide. Eligible participants, including beneficiaries and affiliated entities, must be public or private legal entities established in any country. This inclusive approach is intended to attract the most promising innovations regardless of geographic origin.
Before submitting a proposal, all beneficiaries and affiliated entities must register in the Participant Register and undergo validation by the Central Validation Service. During this process, applicants are required to provide documentation confirming their legal status and country of establishment, ensuring transparency and compliance throughout the application process.
