Deadline: 1-April-2026
The Innovate UK is now accepting grant applications to support the development of zero-emission commercial flight in the UK, focusing on aircraft operations, ground handling technologies, and regulatory frameworks.
The focus areas for this competition include flight operations for zero-emission aircraft, ground handling and infrastructure technologies for zero-emission aircraft, creating a regulatory environment for zero-emission commercial flights, and expanding the evidence base on the feasibility of zero-emission aircraft for commercial aviation. All successful projects are expected to participate in the UK CAA’s Hydrogen Challenge regulatory sandbox initiative.
The Department for Transport and Innovate UK are looking to support the development of zero-emission flight, specifically focusing on aircraft operations that will eventually offer commercial passenger or goods services comparable to current air services.
For feasibility studies, the total eligible project costs must be up to £250,000, while research projects can have up to £5 million in total eligible costs.
To be eligible for funding, organisations must carry out their project work in the UK and plan to exploit the project results in or from the UK. The lead organisation for collaborative projects must be a UK-registered business of any size. Academic institutions cannot lead or work alone on these projects.
