The FutureSkills Apprenticeship Grants is seeking applications to support small and medium-sized businesses committed to hosting modern apprenticeships and fostering growth and employment opportunities.
The program focuses on supporting businesses that are starting new ventures or developing existing ones through training, growth plans, or the employment of apprentices or graduates, while ensuring a supportive pathway for apprentices and a commitment to business scalability.
Businesses eligible for funding must be small to medium enterprises based in the Caithness and North Sutherland area, demonstrate financial viability, and show a strong commitment to growth and apprenticeship development. Grants may provide up to £24,500 over three years depending on the business’s needs, the apprenticeship being undertaken, and the availability of other funding. Sectors excluded from funding include alcohol, activities with negative environmental impact, financial services, gambling, morally or ethically controversial activities, primary agriculture, property development, and weapons.
Funding aims to enable SMEs to strengthen their workforce, develop business capacity, and provide structured apprenticeship opportunities that create meaningful employment pathways. The program does not support capital equipment purchases unless they clearly contribute to business growth or additionality. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how the grant will enhance their business and provide tangible benefits to apprentices.
