Deadline: 26-November-2025
UK registered organisations can apply for terrestrial demonstrations of quantum communications or networking, and to build preparedness for a demonstration with a satellite mission alongside Canadian counterparts.
The initiative is designed to strengthen collaboration between the United Kingdom and Canada, focusing on the commercialisation of quantum communications and networking technologies that will underpin the future of secure data transmission and advanced communication systems.
The successful project will serve as the UK counterpart to a Canadian-led initiative, forming part of a joint support programme to enhance capability for a planned satellite mission. This partnership will enable UK and Canadian researchers and businesses to collaborate on cutting-edge quantum communications technologies, combining their expertise to drive innovation and progress in this rapidly evolving field. The project partners in both countries will work closely together to ensure complementary outcomes and shared success.
Projects applying for this competition must request no more than £3.425 million in total eligible grant funding, with no single partner claiming more than £3 million. The project must run for a duration of between 30 and 36 months, begin no earlier than 1 April 2026, and conclude by 31 March 2029. All project work must be carried out within the UK, and funded organizations must intend to exploit the results of the project from or within the UK to ensure maximum benefit to the national economy.
Applicants must start their projects on the first day of the month and can only begin once their Grant Offer Letter has been approved by Innovate UK. Any delays in the project setup phase could result in adjustments to the start date. Only eligible project costs will be considered, and applicants with project durations outside the stated criteria must request written approval before submission to remain eligible for assessment.
This funding competition represents an exciting opportunity for UK-based organizations to play a leading role in advancing quantum communications technologies and international collaboration. By supporting innovation in this sector, Innovate UK continues to drive technological excellence and secure the UK’s position at the forefront of global quantum research and development.
