Deadline Date: January 20, 2026
The Greek Ministry of Culture has just opened a new round of funding for theatre: professional theatre groups now have the chance to apply for grants to support theatre productions, festivals, tours, educational activities, and other theatrical events.
Funding is available in four tiers — €10,000, €15,000, €25,000 and €35,000 — depending on the group’s experience and past productions. For example, newly formed groups with no prior productions may ask for €10,000 (with at least 10 performances planned), while more experienced companies with multiple prior productions may apply for higher amounts, provided they plan at least 15 performances across Greece with professional actors.
Eligible applicants are non‑profit legal entities — either private or public — with cultural or charitable purposes, provided they were established by 30 June 2025. Groups may collaborate, but the proposal must be submitted by a main implementing entity; if foreign partners are involved, the application must come through a Greek organisation.
Projects eligible for support include full theatrical productions, theatre festivals, tours, performances (including puppet or children’s theatre), as well as supplementary activities like workshops, symposiums or educational theatre programmes. The Ministry’s aim is to support contemporary artistic creation, encourage new and experimental theatrical work, promote new creators, stimulate cultural activity across Greece (including in non‑urban regions), and contribute to social inclusion.
This represents a significant opportunity for theatre groups in Greece seeking institutional backing to realise creative projects, reach new audiences, and strengthen both the cultural sector and local communities. For groups with ambition and professional standards, this grant call could provide the resources needed to bring theatrical visions to life on a national scale.
