Deadline Date: July 15, 2026
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is inviting sheep producers to apply for Round 2 of the Farm Business Transition Program to support the adoption of alternative farming systems and practices in response to the phase out of live sheep exports by sea.
The program supports activities related to planning, professional and technical advice, application of research and development innovations, extension activities, and investment in on-farm infrastructure and improvements. The initiative is designed to help eligible sheep producers transition their farm businesses through practical and targeted support measures.
Grant funding of up to AUD 75,000 GST exclusive is available per eligible applicant across both funding rounds. Funding can be used for a variety of transition activities that strengthen business resilience and encourage the adoption of alternative farming approaches. Costs incurred before a grant agreement is executed or before the agreed activity start date will not be eligible for funding.
Applicants who received the maximum amount of AUD 75,000 in Round 1 are not eligible to apply for additional funding under Round 2. Applicants who received less than the maximum amount may apply for the remaining balance to support different grant activities. Unsuccessful applicants from Round 1 may also submit a new application under Round 2, either for the same project or for a different project.
The funding is provided under the Phase Out of Live Sheep Exports by Sea transition assistance initiative. Eligible applicants include companies, cooperatives, incorporated associations, Indigenous corporations, partnerships, persons, and sole traders. Trustees applying on behalf of a trust must ensure that the trustee entity falls within one of the eligible entity types. Individuals who are not GST registered may apply on behalf of a GST registered partnership, provided that the partnership agreement is submitted with the application.
Applicants are advised to review Section 4 of the Grant Opportunity Guidelines for complete eligibility requirements and application details.
