The Exceptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grant Program is seeking applications to provide funding to small businesses, not-for-profits and primary producers impacted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred and Severe Weather.
Funding is available in different amounts depending on the applicant category. Primary producers can receive grants of up to $75,000 to assist with recovery costs such as clean-up, debris removal, fencing replacement and other essential restoration activities. Small businesses and non-profit organisations can receive grants of up to $25,000 to help repair or replace damaged infrastructure, equipment, stock, or other essential items needed to continue operations. Funding is provided in stages, beginning with an initial claim of up to $5,000 supported by evidence such as photographs, quotations, invoices or receipts. Additional claims can then be submitted for the remaining balance once proof of payment for recovery expenses is provided.
The funding supports activities related to clean-up, reinstatement and emergency recovery measures including purchasing equipment and materials required for clean-up, covering additional labour costs beyond normal wage expenses, disposing of damaged goods and stock, repairing non-residential buildings, repairing or reconditioning essential plant and equipment, hiring or purchasing equipment needed to resume operations quickly, paying tradespeople for safety inspections, and undertaking essential repairs to premises and internal fittings that are not covered by insurance.
The program provides financial assistance to support recovery for primary producers, small businesses and non-profit organisations that experienced direct damage from the disaster. The grants are intended to help affected entities restore operations and repair damaged infrastructure or assets so that activities can resume in the impacted area.
To be eligible, applicants must hold an Australian Business Number (ABN) that was active at the time of the disaster and must have been operating their business or organisation when the event occurred. The entity must be located within the officially defined disaster area and must have experienced direct damage caused by the event. Applicants must also be primarily responsible for covering the recovery costs included in the application and must intend to re-establish their operations within the affected area.
Eligibility also extends to cases where a business or organisation is located outside the defined disaster area but regularly operates within it and has plant or equipment situated in the disaster area that was damaged by the event. Non-profit organisations must additionally demonstrate that they cannot repair or replace damaged assets using their own resources without assistance from the program.
