The SME Enhance Grant Scheme aims to support enterprises seeking to strengthen their operations through strategic investments that drive productivity and business growth.
The focus areas of the scheme are Business success is dependent on the ability of the enterprise to focus investment on expansion, diversification, innovation of the operations, as well as on initial investments. This incentive shall seek to support Undertakings through non-repayable Grants to part-finance investment in relation to the activities outlined and aimed at potentially improving the productivity of the enterprise.
This Grant Scheme falls under Policy Objective 1 ‘A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity’ of SFC2021 Programme 2021-2027 ‘Towards a smarter, well connected and resilient economy, a greener environment and an integrated society’, and addresses the following Policy Objective and Specific Objective: PO1: Promoting entrepreneurship, in particular by facilitating the economic exploitation of new ideas and fostering the creation of new firms, including through business incubators. A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity. RSO1.2. Reaping the benefits of digitisation for citizens, companies, research organisations and public authorities. RSO1.3. Enhancing sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs and job creation in SMEs, including by productive investments.
This scheme supports enterprises that aim to expand, diversify or innovate their operations. It provides non-repayable financial assistance to help part-finance investments that can strengthen productivity and enhance long-term business success. The focus on strategic investment aligns with the broader objective of encouraging competitive and future-ready enterprises.
The scheme has an initial allocated budget of €6,000,000. Grants awarded under this programme range from a minimum of €10,000 to a maximum of €128,400, including an additional 7 percent flat rate to cover indirect costs related to the investment. The SME Enhance scheme will remain active until 31 December 2026, subject to available funds.
Eligibility for this scheme extends to Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises engaged in economic activity. Start-ups classified as Micro and Small Enterprises may also apply. Enterprises that do not have legal personality must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code of Malta to participate in the scheme.
