Deadline Date: February 26, 2026
The Digital Xtra is seeking UK organisations to establish and operate Code Xtra community coding hubs to support young people in developing critical digital skills through hands-on coding, robotics, and technology activities.
Focus areas, the initiative include engaging young people in local coding and tech activities, developing a hub-and-spoke model to support additional grassroots clubs, offering guidance and instruction to local educators, acting as lending libraries for equipment and resources, teaching coding and robotics using LEGO Education kits, BBC micro:bits, and on-screen coding platforms, supplementing content with additional resources, integrating hubs within existing programmes and strategies, reaching young people who face barriers such as gender, geography, background, or socioeconomic factors, and expanding Scotland’s future talent pipeline through high-quality extracurricular digital skills activities.
Each Code Xtra hub will initially operate like a local coding or tech club, delivering dynamic activities for young people and equipping them with LEGO Education computing assets, BBC micro:bits, and accessories. Hubs are encouraged to supplement these resources with their own equipment and content, helping to create a connected and sustainable digital skills ecosystem. As hubs mature, they will adopt a hub-and-spoke model to support the start-up and scale-up of additional clubs in their area, provide guidance to educators, and serve as lending libraries to share resources across the network.
Digital Xtra is seeking Lead Organisations from the public or private sector that can maintain a community coding hub and make a demonstrable positive impact on the local digital skills landscape. Eligible applicants include UK-registered companies, charities, chartered bodies, local authorities, libraries, schools, colleges, and universities actively involved in computing education or digital technologies for young people. Previous Digital Xtra grant recipients may also submit an Expression of Interest if they meet the eligibility criteria.
