The Civil-Military Innovation Program offers funding to support innovative projects that enhance operational capability and reduce vulnerabilities in the Baltic Sea region.
The program focuses on stimulating innovation that increases freedom of action, reduces vulnerability, and strengthens overall operational and military capability in the Baltic Sea area across environments above, on, and below the sea surface, particularly addressing defense-related challenges in marine and coastal contexts.
This funding opportunity is designed for Swedish actors aiming to implement innovative projects with strong potential to address defense-related challenges in marine environments and coastal areas. The initiative supports solutions that can be applied within the military field, encouraging practical and deployable innovations within a limited project timeframe.
Eligible applicants include Swedish companies applying individually or as part of a consortium, with the requirement that at least one small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) participates in the project. This structure ensures collaboration while promoting the involvement of smaller, innovative enterprises in defense-related development.
Projects can receive funding ranging from 1 million to 7 million SEK and must be completed within a maximum duration of 12 months. The funding allocated to each participating organization varies depending on factors such as the size of the organization, its activities, and its specific role within the project.
Funding is governed by state aid rules, which determine the level of financial support each organization may receive. Applicants are required to specify the appropriate support basis in their project description, as funding can be granted under different support frameworks depending on eligibility.
Additionally, there may be opportunities to apply for further funding through competitive processes after the completion of the initial project period, providing a pathway for continued development and scaling of successful innovations.
