The Local Business Grant supports the growth of small businesses that bring economic opportunities, diversity and innovation to the City of Onkaparinga.
This can include initiatives like new technologies, environmental solutions, increasing employment and productivity opportunities, addressing market gaps, strengthening local supply chains, growing new audiences, and tourism development.
Funding will facilitate the development of a thriving and resilient local business community in line with the Community Vision 2034’s goal of ‘strong local economy’.
Funding Priorities
- Below are the funding priorities which projects should be contributing towards, aligned to their Community Vision 2034. Applications must meet at least one of the program priorities.

Funding Information
- Funding available: $2,000 (min) – $10,000 (max)
- Delivery timeframe: Projects must be completed by 31 December 2026
Who can apply?
- Being eligible means that you are allowed to receive a grant. It does not guarantee that your application will be funded.
- Eligible applicants are businesses based in the City of Onkaparinga who:
- are a for profit, registered business (must have an ABN and a current business plan). This includes social enterprises
- generate income at least equal to the minimum weekly wage of $49,296 per annum
- are a small business with fewer than 20 employees
- maintain a valid lease or freehold
- have been in business for more than 12 months
- have current public liability insurance (minimum of $20 million) that covers the program/activity being undertaken. Applicants without public liability insurance will need to obtain a minimum $20 million of cover prior to the release of grant funds.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Ongoing staff salaries or administration costs, licensing or subscription fees, however once-off facilitator/trainer fees are acceptable
- Domestic improvements to home-based businesses premises (only commercial upgrades to the ‘place of business’ component will be eligible)
- Training, study or academic research in Australia or overseas
- Finance arrangements (e.g. deposit for loans, leases, approval fees etc.)
- Projects that denigrate or exclude any groups in the community
- Projects that are invite only or online only
- Projects that have safety and/or environmental risks
- Purchasing of stock for business
- Replacement of existing equipment
- The funding request is from current council employees or elected members
- Any applicant that has failed to comply with all applicable statutory requirements including but not limited to, all acts and activities that constitute development pursuant to the Planning Development and Infrastructure Act 2016;
- Any applicant that has an unresolved matter with the council. For example, are in litigation with the council, have outstanding debts with the council or have not appropriate acquitted a previous council grant
- Projects that substantially pollute land, air or waterways
- Any costs associated with preparing the grant submission.
