Deadline: September 30, 2025
The National Research, Development and Innovation Fund (NRDI Fund) has announced the 2025-1.2.5-EU_KP call to provide predictable funding sources for promoting innovation in Hungary and to strengthen research and development activities with international impact.
The aim of the Call, financed from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund (hereinafter: NRDI Fund), is to provide a predictable source of funding for promoting innovation in the Hungarian economy, to strengthen research and development that can be applied in economic and social spheres, to facilitate the utilisation of domestic and international research results, and to support the development of innovation infrastructure and related service activities. This Call aims to encourage Hungarian applicants to participate in the European Union’s Horizon Europe framework programme for research, development and innovation, as well as in related joint programmes (e.g. partnerships, COST) (hereinafter: “Horizon Europe”) in the highest possible number and share of funding. It also seeks to encourage applicants to take on the role of consortium leader (coordinator) as frequently as possible in these programmes. Grants awarded under this Call will allow beneficiaries to obtain ex-post funding for costs incurred in the formation of the international consortium required to submit the project proposal, as well as for costs related to drafting the consortium agreement and preparing the proposal. By supporting preparatory activities, the Call aims to enhance the international visibility of Hungarian applicants, strengthen their networking and fundraising capacities, support the proposal preparation process and reinforce the role of Hungarian applicants in emerging consortia. The inclusion of new applicants, particularly SMEs, is also a key objective.
The call is open to budgetary institutions, enterprises, and non-profit organisations, with beneficiary groups including higher education institutions, research organisations, non-research enterprises, and the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network. Applications can only be submitted individually, though if multiple Hungarian partners are part of an international consortium, each may submit their own proposal.
The eligible activities include consortium building as a member, leader, or work package leader. Support can cover participation in international partner search events, preparatory project meetings abroad or in Hungary, proposal drafting, legal and patent advisory services, proposal writing training, language editing, and membership fees in professional organisations.
Projects must be completed within 24 months from the start date, with one milestone planned for project completion. The total available budget for this call is HUF 250 million, with an expected 120–150 projects to be funded. Funding per project is capped at HUF 1 million for consortium members not leading work packages and HUF 2 million for consortium leaders or work package leaders.
