Deadline: February 06, 2026
National funding agencies from Sweden and Brazil invite organisations to collaboratively develop R&D projects in sustainable mining, bioeconomy, or sustainable cities.
Focus Areas: Sustainable mining, Bioeconomy, Sustainable cities.
This call, a collaboration between FINEP, Vinnova, and Embrapii, supports R&D projects that aim to research or develop products, processes, or services with commercialisation potential. Projects should address at least one of the fields of sustainable mining, bioeconomy, or sustainable cities.
In sustainable mining, projects might include eco-efficient comminution, more efficient material handling processes or methods, recycling, and more efficient water management. In bioeconomy, projects may explore sustainable forest management, bio-based materials including related processes, new technologies, business models, and policy issues. For sustainable cities, topics include smart and fossil-free transportation systems, efficient water-management systems, and flood management systems.
Project consortia must include at least one eligible Swedish and one eligible Brazilian company, with optional inclusion of an Embrapii unit on the Brazilian side. No single organisation or country can hold more than 70% of the project budget. Partnerships may include universities and research institutes, with a company leading the project. The project duration must not exceed 36 months.
Funding will be granted only to positively evaluated projects by all participating national funding bodies, with Sweden’s Vinnova allocating approximately 2,190,000 EUR. Swedish funding rates cover up to 60% of eligible costs for SMEs, 40% for large companies, and up to 100% for universities and research institutes. Brazil’s FINEP offers non-reimbursable grants up to a maximum of R$ 5,000,000 with varying percentages based on company size, and Embrapii provides co-investment funding covering up to one-third of project costs via accredited research units.
Applicants must follow specific national eligibility rules and application procedures, including consortium agreements ensuring mutual commitments. Evaluation criteria assess impact, excellence, quality and efficiency of implementation, and overall perception of the project.
For Swedish participants, funding applications are made through Vinnova’s portal, and Brazilian companies may partner with Embrapii units for project development. This call supports innovative civilian-purpose R&D initiatives promoting international cooperation for advancing sustainable solutions in mining, bioeconomy, and urban development.
