Vinnova is offering funding to small and medium-sized enterprises to test and evaluate technology solutions that contribute to defense innovation.
The focus areas of this call for proposals include testing and evaluating technology solutions against military needs, military capabilities, and military eligibility requirements, using technology infrastructures that support development from sub-component to system-of-systems levels, and making these infrastructures financially accessible to strengthen technology development and demonstrate potential military benefits.
This initiative is aimed at small and medium-sized companies that want to conduct tests and evaluations at different levels of technology integration, including sub-components, components, sub-systems, systems, platforms, and system-of-system levels, to address clear military needs and contribute to Sweden’s defense capability. The program provides financial support to access technology infrastructures, which include facilities, equipment, capacities, and support services necessary for the development, testing, and validation of technology solutions, and for scaling them to higher technical maturity.
Companies can receive support for a variety of technology infrastructure-related activities. For instance, partial funding can be used for the application fee to participate in “From Innovation to Battlefield Demonstration Week” (Battle Week), a program where industry tackles real military challenges and demonstrates their solutions in realistic environments.
Funding of up to SEK 500,000 per project is available, provided as the minimum support, covering up to 100% of eligible costs. Projects may last up to 12 months and must commence no later than November 20. The funding aims to strengthen SMEs’ ability to advance their technology development and demonstrate military relevance.
Eligible applicants must be classified as small or medium-sized enterprises according to EU definitions and must be Swedish legal entities. Foreign organizations with a branch or establishment in Sweden may also apply, provided the project costs are attributable to the Swedish branch or establishment. Only one applicant organization per project can receive funding, and the applicant must have established contact and obtained a quote from the chosen infrastructure at the time of application.
