The Standards & Awards for SMEs scheme offers financial support to assist small and medium-sized enterprises in strengthening their business operations and attaining prestigious national or international standards and awards.
The scheme focuses on enhancing competitiveness and credibility through internationally recognized certifications or national excellence awards, strengthening alignment with industry standards and best practices, promoting quality, efficiency, sustainability, and innovation within business operations, facilitating entry into new markets, and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in business operations.
This initiative falls under Policy Objective 1 of the SFC2021 Programme 2021-2027, aiming to create a more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity. The scheme addresses promoting entrepreneurship by facilitating the economic exploitation of new ideas and fostering the creation of new firms, including through business incubators. It specifically supports enhancing sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs and job creation, including through productive investments.
The scheme will remain operational until 31st December 2026, subject to availability of funds, with an initial budget allocation of €500,000. The maximum grant value is €15,000, covering part of the eligible costs, while applicants aiming to achieve more than two standards or awards through the same service provider within a single application may qualify for an increased grant value of €20,000.
Eligible undertakings include micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises actively engaged in economic activity and operating for at least one year as of the application date. Enterprises without legal personality under the applicable law must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code to qualify. The scheme emphasizes improving internal management frameworks and operational structures rather than fulfilling regulatory requirements or obtaining product-specific certifications necessary for market placement.
