Applications are now open for CQDM Funding Program to support the development of innovative technologies, tools, and platforms that are of strategic interest to large pharmaceutical companies.
The program is designed to support the development of innovative technologies, tools, and platforms that are of strategic interest to large pharmaceutical companies. By providing financial support, it encourages groundbreaking research that can have a meaningful impact on the pharmaceutical sector.
Funding under the program typically ranges from $500,000 to $1,500,000 per project, although higher amounts may be considered if justified. CQDM generally provides financial aid covering about one-third of the total project budget, with the remaining funding expected to come from pharmaceutical partners and other sources identified by the research team. The program runs for a minimum of one year and can extend up to three years, providing researchers with the flexibility and time required to carry out complex, innovative projects.
Eligible expenses include grants, salaries, and social benefits for research staff, as well as equipment, consumables, laboratory supplies, and platform or animal fees. Travel costs related to project activities, collaborations, and conferences, along with knowledge dissemination fees, are also covered. Additionally, funding can be used for intellectual property costs, such as patent applications and maintenance fees, and for small pieces of equipment valued at up to $25,000. Some subcontracted work essential to the project may also be financed under the program.
Certain expenses, however, are not eligible. These include rental or purchase of equipment exceeding $25,000 in value, and the salaries of principal researchers and associated researchers at universities or their affiliated research centers. Applicants are encouraged to reach out to CQDM’s Senior Director of Business Development to discuss project proposals and funding arrangements to ensure alignment with program guidelines.
The Quantum Leap funding program represents a significant opportunity for Canadian researchers and SMEs to bring innovative biopharmaceutical solutions from concept to reality, strengthen collaborations with pharmaceutical industry partners, and contribute to the advancement of Canada’s research landscape.
