The Capability Development Grant (CD Grant) supports the continuous professional development of individuals and organisations working in Singapore’s arts and culture sector through structured training and on-the-job learning activities.
Priority is given to programmes aligned with digital technology for art-making, audience development and outreach, and business development; audience engagement including facilitation and engagement in the arts, teaching artistry, arts education and pedagogy, and working with communities and/or youth; entrepreneurship and organisation capabilities such as arts management, business management and leadership, fundraising and financial management, branding and marketing, governance, and intellectual property and legal knowledge; art-form specific capabilities including traditional art forms reflecting the Chinese, Malay and Indian heritage of Singapore, curating for visual arts, literary publishing, editing, translation and creative writing, and technical design and stage or production management; and arts research, critique and documentation.
The grant is open to individuals as well as organisations and supports professional training and skills development programmes such as workshops, master classes, seminars, conferences, certified or accredited courses, residencies, competitions accompanied by professional development opportunities, and structured mentorships. It also supports on-the-job training activities including work attachments, internships, traineeships, and apprenticeships.
Supportable programmes must be relevant to the applicant’s role and practice within the arts sector, and online courses are eligible provided they meet the minimum duration requirement. Activities or programmes supported under the grant must take place within a maximum period of 12 consecutive months.
Individuals who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents actively contributing to the local arts scene may apply, with priority given to self-employed persons. Organisations must be registered in Singapore, and informal collectives may apply through a legally responsible representative. Funding support varies by applicant type and is provided as a percentage of actual supportable expenses, subject to annual caps.
