Deadline: September 18, 2025
The Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) has launched a call for 3-month exploratory research projects to shape a future £50 million programme on Engineering Ecosystem Resilience.
The focus areas include deep dives on research directions relevant to the Engineering Ecosystem Resilience space, exploration of technical feasibility, risks, gaps and opportunities, identification and exploration of ethical, governance and community engagement needs and concerns, analysing existing data with new approaches or hypotheses, synthesising or reviewing scientific, technological or ethical work relevant to the opportunity space, running study groups or surveys on stakeholder perceptions, testing the application of new technologies for proof-of-concept data, theoretical modelling or simulation connected to real ecosystems and resilience, novel literature synthesis identifying gaps or challenging paradigms, work challenging the Opportunity Space document, and social science research on community engagement, stakeholder perspectives or governance approaches for interventions.
Applicants can request up to £20,000 for projects lasting up to three months, with ARIA expecting to fund up to ten projects. Proposals are welcome from individuals, universities, research institutions, companies, charities, and public sector organisations, with a focus on applicants based in or conducting most of their work in the UK.
Applications are structured in two parts: a one-page technical proposal outlining background, motivation, and project focus; and a section detailing timeline, budget, and administrative considerations. Selection will be based on alignment with the opportunity space, feasibility, applicant expertise, and the potential benefit to the UK.
The application window closes on 18 September 2025 at 14:00 BST. Successful applicants will be notified by 26 September 2025. Awards will be confirmed on 3 October 2025, subject to contract signing.
