Deadline: September 30, 2025
The Swedish Energy Agency has announced a funding call worth approximately SEK 140 million to support research and innovation projects that address societal challenges and contribute to the transition towards a sustainable and fossil-free energy system.
The focus of this opportunity includes: Sociotechnical perspectives on the implementation of new energy technologies, synergies and conflicts between different societal goals and norms, equity aspects in the energy transition and the design of energy solutions, policy, governance and administrative processes related to the energy sector, energy poverty and the role of energy in society, social resilience and preparedness in the energy sector, acceptance and conflicts around energy infrastructure, fairness and inclusion in future energy markets, user behavior and socio-economic consequences of flexibility in the energy system, sparsely populated, rural and urban perspectives on the energy transition, and other areas relevant to the purpose of the call.
This call aims to generate new knowledge and solutions for the interaction of the energy and electricity system with society, while fostering conditions for achieving energy and climate policy goals. Universities, colleges, research institutes, public sector entities, and businesses are eligible to apply, with collaboration across different types of actors strongly encouraged.
Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2025, and decisions on funding are expected in December 2025. Successful projects may begin from January 1, 2026.
This initiative is closely connected to the Swedish Energy Agency’s research programs, including Humans, Energy Systems and Society (MESAM), which emphasizes multidisciplinary research on socially relevant energy issues, and the Electricity Systems of the Future program, which focuses on challenges related to electricity production, use, and grid development.
