Deadline: September 30, 2025
The IDB Lab, the innovation laboratory of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, is inviting investment management firms to apply for its Venture Capital Funds Investment Program, which aims to efficiently expand early-stage financing in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The focus areas of this call include investment in Venture Capital (VC) funds that align with one or more of the following approaches: Nascent and Emerging Ecosystems (covering regions like Central America, the Caribbean, and select South American markets such as Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Uruguay) that target early-stage ecosystems and emerging fund managers; Regional Funds with strategies that promote integration and knowledge transfer between developed and emerging VC markets in the region; and Sector-specific Funds focusing on high-impact sectors with significant financing gaps, such as Health/Biotech, Edtech/Workertech, Agtech/Foodtech, and Climate Tech.
The program is designed to address key barriers for social inclusion and development impact, emphasizing early-stage investment funds with minimum fund sizes of USD 20 million, except for those targeting nascent ecosystems, which require at least USD 10 million. Fund managers must have strong, qualified teams with demonstrable experience and presence in the Latin America and Caribbean region, including a commitment to impact mainstreaming and gender and diversity advancement across both fund management and portfolio companies.
The selection process evaluates both qualitative and quantitative criteria such as management team track records, investment theses, fund governance, development impact, and strategic alignment with IDB Lab’s mission. Interested firms are required to submit an online application along with their investment deck by September 30, 2025, for consideration in the first quarter of 2026.
Proposals will be reviewed thoroughly, including eligibility screening and due diligence, with the final investment decisions made by the IDB Lab Donors Committee. Applicants must adhere to strict business practices and comply with all relevant local laws and international standards as outlined by IDB Lab.
