Deadline Date: June 30, 2026
The Understanding Science Funding Programme offered by the Vienna Business Agency provides an opportunity for organisations in Vienna to receive support for projects that make scientific knowledge more accessible to the public.
The programme is designed to bridge the gap between research and society by encouraging creative and engaging approaches to science communication that help people better understand scientific concepts and their relevance to everyday life.
Funding is available for development proposals with a minimum project value of 10,000 euros and a maximum funding amount of 60,000 euros per project. Supported initiatives can run for up to two years, giving applicants sufficient time to design, test and deliver impactful activities. The programme welcomes a wide range of formats, including interactive experiences, educational initiatives, events and digital content that foster dialogue between science and the public.
Eligible applicants include universities, universities of applied sciences, associations, non-university research institutions and other organisations. By supporting these actors, the programme aims to strengthen Vienna’s knowledge ecosystem and encourage collaboration between research institutions and society. Successful projects are expected to demonstrate clear strategies for engaging diverse audiences and translating complex scientific findings into understandable and meaningful content.
Through this initiative, the Vienna Business Agency reinforces its commitment to scientific literacy, innovation and public engagement. The funding enables organisations to amplify their outreach, build trust in science and inspire curiosity and informed discussion across communities. Applicants are encouraged to clearly articulate how their proposed projects will contribute to greater public understanding of science and deliver lasting value for society.
