Entries are now open for Digitalise Your SME to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in investing in digital technologies to enhance their competitiveness, resilience, and operational efficiency.
The European Union, through the Digitalise Your SME In today’s globalized economy, enterprises no longer compete only locally but face competition worldwide. To succeed, businesses must adopt the latest digital tools and capabilities, enabling better products, services, and customer experiences. Digitalization not only improves productivity and efficiency but also opens new economic opportunities, supports innovative business models, and strengthens networking and customer engagement.
The scheme falls under Policy Objective 1 of the SFC2021 Programme 2021–2027, which focuses on building a smarter and more competitive Europe through innovation, smart economic transformation, and enhanced ICT connectivity. Its specific objective is to help SMEs reap the benefits of digitalization for businesses, citizens, research organizations, and public authorities. The initiative is designed to remain operational until 31 December 2026, subject to available funding, with an initial budget of €5,000,000, including contributions from the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA).
Grants under this scheme range from a minimum of €10,000 to a maximum of €128,400 per eligible project, with an additional 7% flat rate to cover indirect costs. Eligible applicants include micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises engaged in an economic activity, including startups, regardless of legal form. Enterprises without legal personality under applicable law must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (CAP 16 of the Laws of Malta).
The scheme supports investments in digital technologies and related processes, including hardware, software, and other solutions that improve efficiency, productivity, and customer experience. Examples of eligible actions include digitalizing management systems to optimize workflow and staff resources, as well as implementing digitally enabled machinery to enhance production quality and speed. By embracing digitalization, SMEs can streamline operations, increase competitiveness, and unlock new growth opportunities in both local and international markets.
