Are you building the future of the bioeconomy? The Innovation Hub Management Company (TIHMC), in partnership with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) through SIIP, invites high-potential bioeconomy startups to apply for funding under the Start-Up Support Programme (SSP).
The programme focuses on supporting projects in bioconversion, industrial biocatalysis, bioremediation, microbial bioprospecting, and biorefineries. The primary objectives are to support SMMEs, facilitate product development and demonstrations, and contribute to economic growth, job creation, and national socio-economic benefit. Priority will be given to innovative, knowledge-based businesses in the bioeconomy sector with a demonstrable proof of concept, commercial potential, competitive advantage, and a capable project team. Applications from women, youth, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged.
Funding available per project ranges from R51,000 to R300,000 and is limited to companies currently incubated at TIHMC or those interested in joining the TIHMC incubation programme. Eligible projects should demonstrate innovation, job creation potential, proof of concept (TRL ≥3), national economic benefit, market potential, intellectual property or competitive advantage, and a capable team to implement and commercialize the innovation.
Applicants are required to provide a comprehensive proposal including a description of the business and its value proposition, the novelty of the project compared to existing market options, detailed market analysis, identification of target beneficiaries and off-take agreements, a detailed budget including three years’ cash flow projections, and team profiles demonstrating the ability to carry out the project successfully. Contact information for key personnel must also be included.
