Deadline Date: February 09, 2026
The Technology Innovation Agency is inviting grant applications to support market‑ready, scalable, and context‑appropriate technologies that strengthen South Africa’s disaster management system across all phases, from risk assessment and early warning to preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience.
The purpose of the Call is to invite applications for funding for market‑ready, scalable, and context‑appropriate technologies that strengthen South Africa’s disaster management system across all phases, including risk assessment and early warning, preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience or mitigation.
The focus areas for this Call include risk assessment and early warning with technologies such as satellite‑based flood prediction, wildfire detection and climate modelling, AI‑driven early warning systems, mobile alert platforms, and community‑based risk communication tools; preparedness with tools for scenario modelling, decision‑support dashboards, culturally tailored preparedness solutions and training platforms; and response technologies including drones for search and rescue, rapid mapping, mobile command centres, water and sanitation technologies for disaster situations, and AI‑enabled chatbots for crisis communication and coordination.
Funded projects will receive up to R1 000 000 per project, with implementation expected over a period of 12 to 18 months. The selected technologies should not only address immediate needs but also be captured in a database for potential future use to enhance South Africa’s comprehensive disaster management capabilities.
Applicants eligible to participate in this Call must be South African small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), start‑ups, non‑profits, research institutions, or community‑based organisations with commercially ready or advanced pilot stage solutions. Preference is given to technologies developed for African conditions that are adaptable to local environments.
