Deadline: September 30, 2025
The Policy Challenge Grant supports the advancement of the Australian Capital Territory’s (ACT) energy transition policy.
The focus areas of this grant include incentivising research-innovation-policy partnerships and collaborative proposals between research and industry, and accelerating the ACT’s energy transition. The grant supports the development of projects such as policy white papers, new business solutions, or new regulatory sandboxing trials tailored to address the ACT’s specific energy transition needs.
The Policy Challenge Grant welcomes applications from the business sector, regulatory experts, think tanks, and research institutions focused on the stated policy challenge. Funding of up to $3.75 million is available annually, with individual grants ranging from $20,000 to $500,000 (excluding GST). The theme of the Policy Challenge Grant changes yearly and is announced on the ACT’s Everyday Climate Choices website.
Eligibility extends to businesses with expertise in the energy transition holding an independent Australian Business Number (ABN), as well as universities, think tanks, and other research institutions experienced in the energy transition, especially when partnered with businesses. Applicants are encouraged to consult with City and Environment Directorate (CED) staff before submitting proposals to ensure alignment with Territory priorities and to avoid duplication of ongoing work.
The grant aims to support innovative ideas by enabling testing and development of new policies that can effectively address the ACT’s energy transformation challenges.
