Aboriginal Investment NT offers dedicated support to help Aboriginal Territorians start or expand their businesses through targeted funding programs that strengthen commercial growth and capability.
The focus areas of this opportunity are increasing the size, scale, diversity and maturity of NT Aboriginal businesses, as well as the number of Aboriginal Territorians employed by NT Aboriginal businesses.
The Business Development Journey helps guide entrepreneurs from the early idea stage to becoming established and sustainable businesses. Through this initiative, Aboriginal Investment NT provides two funding options designed to meet the needs of businesses at different stages of growth. The Business Start-Up Grant offers up to $100,000 to support new enterprises, while the Business Growth Grant provides up to $150,000 to assist businesses that are ready to scale. These grants aim to build strong Aboriginal-owned businesses that contribute to economic independence and long-term community development.
Eligibility requirements ensure that support is directed to genuinely Aboriginal-owned and actively operating businesses. Applicants must be a corporation, sole trader or partnership registered in the Northern Territory, hold a valid ABN, and maintain at least 51% Aboriginal ownership and involvement. Businesses must also be solvent, compliant with all regulations, have no outstanding obligations from previous grants, and not be government bodies. Additional eligibility applies depending on whether applicants are seeking Start-Up or Growth funding, including trading history, previous grant amounts received and insurance requirements.
