The C-CAMP has launched its Centre of Excellence in Bioengineering and Biotechnology to support innovators in transforming research into commercially viable solutions.
C-CAMP, in partnership with the Wadhwani Foundation, has established a Centre of Excellence in Bioengineering and Biotechnology to boost research commercialization. The focus areas of the initiative include transforming academic and entrepreneurial research into scalable, industry-ready solutions, fostering job creation and economic growth, driving cross-disciplinary innovation in biotech and bioengineering, and aligning with national priorities for science-led development.
The initiative offers a non-dilutive funding opportunity of up to INR 1 crore per selected awardee to support projects at Technology Readiness Level above TRL4, pilot and validation studies, prototype refinement, scaling up innovations, and generating additional data or performing validation studies needed to secure next-level funding.
Eligible participants include Indian start-ups or academic innovators working on translation-based technologies or innovations with commercial potential, including new products, processes, or IP-driven solutions in Healthcare, Drugs, Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Industrial Biotechnology, and Agriculture. Selection criteria require that the technology be product-oriented, novel, with potential for IP generation, and address an unmet need with measurable impact. The start-ups or principal investigators should have competent technical and business teams, a clear business model, a sound commercialization strategy, and a well-defined roadmap to the market, including understanding the end-user and market size.
This partnership exemplifies a robust public-private model designed to accelerate India’s leadership in deep-tech and life sciences innovation, providing both financial and strategic support to transform pioneering research into commercially viable solutions.
