The Welsh Government has activated the Business Flood Relief Fund to provide financial assistance to businesses in Monmouthshire directly affected by Storm Claudia.
The fund is to provide financial assistance for those businesses who have suffered internal flooding as a result of Storm Claudia, support businesses with immediate costs of recovery that are not covered by insurance, assist businesses who have been internally flooded, cover costs that cannot be recovered from insurance, and provide support for refurbishment, repairs including associated costs such as drying, cleaning and professional fees, replacement equipment, and flood resilience measures. Under this opportunity, a Business Flood Relief Grant of up to £3,000 is available per business to support recovery following internal flooding caused by Storm Claudia. The grant is designed for small and medium-sized enterprises and charitable organisations of an equivalent size that can demonstrate direct internal flood damage linked to the storm.
Funding is calculated at 75% of identified eligible costs, up to a maximum of £3,000 per business, with support available for both already purchased items after the date of the flood and items yet to be purchased. The assistance is strictly limited to business-related costs that are not recoverable through insurance.
Eligible businesses must submit one application per business and one application per property, along with details of estimated affected costs, evidence of a business address dated within the last three months, and photographic evidence of flood damage. Certain costs are excluded, including insurance excess fees, damages related to residential lettings, and personal or household costs associated with businesses operating from residential properties. The fund aims to help businesses recover quickly by addressing essential repair, replacement, and resilience needs arising directly from Storm Claudia’s impact in Monmouthshire.
