The Collaborative Research Grant (CRG) is a competitive funding initiative co-funded by the Western Australian Government and the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) to support cross-disciplinary collaboration between WA-based industry and academic institutions in developing technologies that are relevant to defence and aligned with national strategic priorities.
The focus of the grant is to encourage collaborative research partnerships that address national defence needs and strategic priorities by combining the expertise of academia and industry in Western Australia. It aims to foster innovation, promote technological advancement, and strengthen the state’s defence research capabilities through applied, multidisciplinary collaboration.
Each project may request up to $200,000 in funding, with a project duration expected to run between 12 and 18 months. While a co-contribution is not mandatory, proposals that include financial or in-kind support from team members will be viewed more favourably during the evaluation process.
This program plays a crucial role in enhancing Western Australia’s contribution to national defence research and innovation, providing a platform for researchers and industry professionals to work together on projects that strengthen sovereign capabilities. The funding encourages the translation of research into practical defence applications while supporting the growth of WA’s advanced technology ecosystem.
