Deadline Date: February 03, 2026
The Lundbeck Foundation Start-Up Programme supports the development of Danish neuroscience by funding the recruitment of researchers to permanent positions at Danish universities or hospitals from abroad or from industry.
The focus areas of the opportunity are funding Danish-based research that promotes a better understanding of the brain and better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of brain disorders; ensuring that Denmark has the best graduates and scientists at all career levels in the fields of biomedical, clinical, and health sciences; encouraging diversity including, but not limited to, gender and ethnic origin; research within basic or clinical neuroscience, or science with clear relevance to neuroscience including medical, technical, natural, and social sciences as well as the humanities; DKK 7 million for up to 4 years for associate professors and DKK 11 million for up to 4 years for full professors.
The programme aims to make Denmark a frontrunner in neuroscience and supports institutions in strengthening their scientific and educational activities. Through this initiative, university and hospital leaders with hiring authority can apply to recruit candidates to permanent positions, provided the salaries are covered by the institution and the positions align with institutional neuroscience strategies. It is a prerequisite that similar grants have not been obtained from other sources.
Candidates selected for these positions must have been in active research outside Denmark or in industry for at least two years prior to recruitment and must begin full-time commitment within a year after programme approval. The second stage of the application process requires the selected researcher to submit a detailed research proposal with supporting documents. The final approval will be based on the research plan, publication list, CV, budget, alignment of the research with institutional neuroscience goals, and the assessment committee’s evaluation.
Applications must be submitted in English via the Lundbeck Foundation’s application system (LANAS), and only material provided through the system will be assessed. Initially, applications are preapproved based on institutional needs and alignment with programme criteria, followed by final approval upon review of the candidate’s research plan.
