Deadline Date: May 19, 2026
The European Commission is seeking grant applications to design and demonstrate a hydrogen distribution and conditioning system for direct hydrogen combustion aircraft, supporting the advancement of clean and sustainable aviation technologies.
Focus areas include the development and demonstration of the hydrogen distribution system from the tank interface to the combustor, critical distribution and hydrogen conditioning components such as the high-pressure hydrogen pump at TRL5, on-ground demonstration of the fuel distribution system at TRL4, and a scaled on-ground demonstration of the engine thrust control function.
The project seeks to advance the technology readiness of hydrogen propulsion systems by performing detailed ground demonstrations of fuel handling and distribution, ensuring the integration of high-pressure hydrogen pumps and conditioning units within an aircraft propulsion context. The initiative targets achieving technical maturity to support future hydrogen-powered aircraft operations and strengthen the ecosystem for clean aviation fuels.
Funding of €329,500,000 is allocated to support eligible entities worldwide, including legal entities from non-associated third countries and international organisations, provided they meet the Horizon Europe Regulation requirements and any specific conditions of the call. Participants can be natural or legal persons recognised under national, EU, or international law, capable of exercising rights and obligations or acting without legal personality.
