Deadline: October 01, 2025
The Traffic-Safe Automation – FFI call by Vinnova supports research and development activities that aim to increase road safety and make transportation more sustainable through safe, connected, automated vehicles prepared for shared use.
The focus areas of the programme are Safe Automated Vehicles, Safety for road users inside and outside the vehicle, Integration of vehicles and infrastructure for safe transportation solutions, Enabling methods and techniques with clear application for the development and deployment of safe automation, and Demonstrations, pilots and field tests.
The initiative is part of the Trafiksäker automation sub-programme under the Vehicle Strategic Research and Innovation (FFI) collaboration, a state–industry partnership funding around one billion SEK annually. The specific call offers approximately 60 million SEK with funding covering up to 50 percent of project costs, requiring at least 25 percent co-financing from business partners. The projects can range from feasibility studies of six to nine months, capped at SEK 500,000, to full-scale projects lasting up to four years.
The aim is to contribute to Vision Zero, equitable transportation, sustainability, efficiency, and productivity, while establishing strong research and industry collaborations both nationally and internationally. Applicants must consist of at least two partner organizations, which can include research institutes, companies, public bodies, and non-profits. Eligible costs include personnel, equipment, consulting, other direct expenses, and indirect overheads, all governed by EU state aid rules.
Proposals will be assessed against four main criteria: potential, implementation, actor constellation, and gender equality integration. For full-scale projects, greater weight is placed on societal impact and strategic viability, while feasibility studies emphasize innovative project ideas and context understanding. Gender equality and climate change remain central assessment perspectives, in alignment with Agenda 2030 objectives.
The application process requires detailed project descriptions, summaries, CV attachments, and supporting documents to be submitted through Vinnova’s e-services by 1 October 2025 at 2 PM. Applicants must also plan for open-access publication of scientific results to ensure broad dissemination and societal benefit.
