Deadline: October 13, 2025
The Netherlands Film Fund is inviting applications for the Realization Short Animation Subsidy to support the production of short animated films of up to 60 minutes, with the current round open until October 13, 2025, at 5:00 PM CET.
In its substantive selection, the Fund prioritizes original scenarios and selects a high-quality, diverse, and daring offering.
The subsidy is open to independent production companies that have been legally established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland, and that are continuously producing and exploiting films or other audiovisual productions. For short animations of up to 10 minutes, the producer must have been primarily responsible as majority producer for at least one independent, non-commissioned film production in the professional Dutch film and/or television sector. If it is the producer’s debut in animation, the creative team must demonstrably possess animation expertise. For short animations of 10 minutes or more, the producer must have been primarily responsible for at least two independent, non-commissioned animated film productions. In both cases, the producer representing the company cannot also serve as the director or screenwriter.
If the requested contribution is under €50,000, directors with demonstrable animation production experience may independently submit an application. Producers who meet the requirements for development may also apply independently in this category.
The Fund’s financial contribution depends on the project’s nature, scope, complexity, and team composition. The contribution is capped at a maximum of €110,000 for films up to 15 minutes, €165,000 for films between 15 and 60 minutes, and up to 85% of the production budget. An additional €5,000 contribution can be requested for distribution.
Applications are reviewed both substantively and on production-business aspects. Film consultants evaluate the content, while the Production and Subsidy Office assesses financial and organizational elements. The director/manager makes the final decision pursuant to the Fund’s General Regulations.
