Deadline Date: February 27, 2027
The City of Perth is inviting applications for its Business Improvement Grant Program to support businesses and property owners to carry out project works that enhance the public realm, create new experiences and encourage people to visit and stay longer.
The program is centered around two main priorities: visitation and vibrancy, which aim to introduce new products or experiences that enhance the appeal and attractiveness of locations within the City of Perth; and business growth, which supports the development and success of both new and existing businesses in the retail, food and beverage, and tourism sectors.
The grant provides matched funding ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 for eligible projects, meaning applicants must contribute an equal amount, resulting in a total minimum project cost of $10,000 to $40,000. The funding operates as a reimbursement, so payments are made only after the project is completed and all associated invoices have been settled.
Eligible projects include improvements that enhance public-facing aspects of businesses and urban spaces, such as façade upgrades, outdoor or alfresco dining installations, mural installations visible from public areas, awnings or canopy upgrades, improved public entrances, street-interactive frontages, lighting enhancements, new service interfaces like takeaway windows, and the activation or adaptive reuse of underutilized spaces including rooftops, upper floors, and basements.
The program excludes projects focused solely on signage, security systems, internal non-customer-facing upgrades, temporary initiatives, or previously funded staged developments. It also does not support operational costs, consumables, standard equipment, relocatable items, or marketing activities.
Eligible applicants must be legally constituted entities or individuals with an Australian Business Number (ABN) and must demonstrate a tangible investment in the City of Perth, such as holding a commercial lease extending at least two years beyond the application date or owning property within the local government area. They must engage with relevant City authorities prior to applying, submit the application before starting the project, and demonstrate financial capacity to fully fund the project upfront without reliance on the grant.
