Deadline Date: April 23, 2026
The Accessibility Improvement Grant Program is now accepting applications to support property improvements that enhance accessibility and remove barriers in the built environment.
The program prioritizes installations and upgrades that meet or exceed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Building Code (OBC), including ramps, elevators, lifts, automatic door openers, guards and handrails, and other accessibility improvements approved by the municipality.
The municipality will fund up to 50% of the total project cost, excluding taxes, to a maximum of $5,000. By supporting these upgrades, the program aims to foster an inclusive and accessible community environment while enhancing the streetscape quality in commercial areas.
Eligible applicants include merchants or commercial and industrial property owners within the Community Improvement Project Area, including agricultural properties open to the public for farmgate or agri-tourism purposes. Projects within designated Commercial Focus Areas are given priority. Applicants may combine this grant with other municipal programs if project requirements are met, and heritage-designated buildings must obtain approval from the Huron East Heritage Committee.
Projects must comply with municipal by-laws, be free of tax arrears, and may require building or sign permits prior to commencement. Applicants must provide at least a 50% cash contribution, and eligible costs must reflect documented outlays to third parties or materials purchased for self-performed work. All projects should be completed within the funding year, and improvements must not interfere with sidewalk maintenance or pedestrian safety.
For more information, visit Municipality of Huron East.
