Deadline Date: May 04, 2026
The Waste Minimisation Fund is seeking applications to support innovative projects that reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and encourage community participation, education, and long-term behaviour change across the Whangārei District.
The fund focuses on complementing and enhancing existing waste minimisation programmes, addressing gaps in the Council’s waste services, creating new opportunities for reducing waste, aligning with actions from the Whangārei District Council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, delivering long-term benefits and behaviour change, fostering business-community partnerships, developing collaborations with other waste minimisation organizations, and supporting initiatives that are ongoing and self-sustaining beyond the funding period.
Funding is offered through two rounds each year with standard grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and special project grants from $5,000 to $30,000. Eligible projects are expected to deliver measurable reductions in landfill waste or other improvements in waste minimisation while contributing to the objectives of the District’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.
Eligible organisations must have a constitution or trust deed, a bank account in the group’s name, have held a recent AGM in line with their rules, operate for not-for-profit or charitable purposes, have no existing funding from the Council or Ministry for the Environment, and provide benefits to the Whangārei District. The fund prioritizes projects that demonstrate collaboration, sustainability, and tangible community impact in waste reduction efforts.
