Deadline: 29-Sep-2026
The European Commission has announced a funding opportunity aimed at enhancing European land forces’ very-long-range rocket artillery capabilities.
The focus areas of this initiative include developing a European multiple rocket launcher system capable of countering advanced threats such as counter-battery capabilities, first-person view drones, or loitering ammunition, while increasing range and precision of long-range indirect fire support, maximising interoperability with legacy systems, optimising cost-effectiveness in high-intensity and GNSS-contested or GNSS-denied environments, and addressing production and operational cost efficiency under a symmetric high-intensity battle assumption.
This call targets studies and design activities, encompassing upstream and downstream development actions for the multiple rocket launcher system itself, without including carrier platforms or ammunition development. The initiative responds to the need for independent European solutions, as many Member States and EDF associated countries currently rely on non-European systems nearing the end of their operational life. By advancing this technology, the program aims to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy in defence while ensuring systems remain interoperable with existing components.
Eligible participants must be legal entities, public or private, established in EU Member States, including overseas countries and territories, or in non-EU countries associated with the EDF Programme. Entities must have executive management located in eligible countries and must not be controlled by non-associated third countries unless guarantees approved by the relevant Member State or EDF associated country are provided.
The total funding budget for this topic is EUR 422,000,000, with an indicative allocation of EUR 25,000,000 under the EDF-2026-DA call. This effort contributes to the STEP objectives defined under the STEP Regulation, focusing on advancing defence technologies within Europe.
