Deadline: October 24, 2025
Kent County Council has launched Active Travel Business Grants of up to £5000 to help businesses encourage staff and customers to walk, wheel, or cycle to access business premises in Kent.
The focus of this grant is on cycle parking facilities and storage that meet minimum design standards for accessibility, lockers and showers for staff, pool bikes for staff, electric hook-ups for e-bike charging, and innovative facilities to support staff and customers in walking, wheeling, or cycling to access the business.
The funding scheme is a pilot initiative open for the 2025 to 2026 budget year only, with limited financial support available. Eligible applicants include small businesses, not-for-profit organisations, and NHS community facilities such as doctor’s surgeries, provided they are located in Kent (excluding Medway) and employ at least two staff members.
Applications will be assessed on factors including the current support businesses already provide for sustainable travel, the proximity of the business to the highway network, and any innovative behaviour change measures or match funding included in the proposal. Projects demonstrating strong alignment with the scheme’s priorities will be ranked more favorably.
Applicants need to ensure new facilities are installed on owned land or with the landowner’s permission and must take full responsibility for ongoing maintenance. The grant cannot be used for expenses such as lighting, planning permissions, or legal fees.
The application window runs from 26 August 2025 until 24 October 2025, but may close earlier if a sufficient number of strong applications are received. Results will be communicated by the end of October 2025, with payments made upon invoice submission by 1 April 2026.
