The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is offering the Policy Challenge Grant to support innovative solutions addressing key energy transition policy challenges.
This grant encourages applications from businesses, regulatory experts, think tanks, and research institutions to test new ideas and accelerate the ACT’s energy transition through collaborative research-policy-industry partnerships. Funding under aims to incentivize innovative proposals, support the development of policy white papers, new business solutions, or regulatory sandboxing trials tailored to the ACT’s specific energy transition needs. The grant seeks to accelerate collaboration between research and industry while advancing the region’s net zero emissions goals.
A total of up to $3.75 million is available, with individual grants ranging from $20,000 to $500,000 (excluding GST). Applications can only be submitted once per year, unless invited to resubmit by the assessment panel. Each year, the grant’s policy theme will change, with further details announced on the ACT’s Everyday Climate Choices website.
Eligible applicants must hold an Australian Business Number (ABN), maintain required insurances including $10 million public liability, be ACT-based or have the majority of funded activities within the ACT, contribute to the ACT’s 2045 net zero target, comply with GST requirements if applicable, and ensure the project does not duplicate existing government initiatives. Businesses supporting First Nations communities or vulnerable populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
