Deadline Date: February 02, 2026
The Lazio Region, through the “Potenziamento Rete Spazio Attivo” project and Lazio Innova, has launched the Gamification Innovation Lab (GIL) at the Spazio Attivo LOIC in Zagarolo.
Funded under the PR Lazio FESR 2021/2027 program, GIL is a new innovation laboratory designed to support startups, innovators, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing gamification solutions that enhance competitiveness and drive sustainable growth.
The Innovation Lab is structured to connect the demand for gamification solutions with the expertise of developers and innovators. The program begins with a two-step preliminary phase: first, enterprises submit a “Manifestation of Interest” to indicate their intention to integrate gamification into their production processes or service management. Second, the lab selects skilled individuals or teams capable of co-designing gamification solutions that respond to the specific needs of participating enterprises.
The general goal of GIL is to foster collaboration between innovators—whether startups, informal teams, or individual creators—and established enterprises, forming co-design groups to develop practical, innovative solutions. The lab specifically aims to facilitate the creation of Game Design Documents for serious games, supported by mentors, and to implement these solutions within participating companies.
GIL also seeks to strengthen partnerships between startups and SMEs at different stages of development, enhancing competitiveness through skill integration. By promoting shared design processes and customer-supplier collaboration on targeted innovation needs, the lab encourages the development of lasting relationships based on continuous micro-innovation. Additionally, the initiative enhances the regional innovation ecosystem by connecting local startups with established enterprises, enabling improved products, new market opportunities, and greater visibility of regional innovation offerings.
The program targets professionals, informal teams, and startups, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises with at least one operational location in Lazio. Participating enterprises must demonstrate a clear need for innovation and the development of new products or solutions that increase competitiveness. Eligible initiatives must incorporate gamification elements—such as points, levels, challenges, rewards, and immediate feedback—applied across diverse areas, including marketing, human resources, public engagement, training, organizational innovation, customer and user experience, collective intelligence, communication, cultural promotion, and sustainability awareness.
Through GIL, Lazio Innova offers a unique opportunity for regional businesses and innovators to collaborate, co-create, and leverage gamification to improve processes, engage audiences, and drive growth in competitive markets. The initiative emphasizes co-design, sustainability, and the practical application of innovative game-based solutions across multiple sectors, ensuring tangible impact for participating enterprises and the regional economy.
