The SME Enhance Grant Scheme provides non-repayable support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises to invest in expansion, diversification, innovation, and initial investments to improve productivity.
The scheme focuses on promoting entrepreneurship, facilitating the economic exploitation of new ideas, fostering the creation of new firms including through business incubators, reaping the benefits of digitisation for citizens, companies, research organisations, and public authorities, and enhancing sustainable growth, competitiveness, and job creation within SMEs.
The Measures and Support Division, acting as an Intermediate Body under the Managing Authority, administers this scheme as part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027 programming period. Business success under this initiative is supported through grants designed to co-finance investment in eligible activities that align with the outlined objectives, potentially improving enterprise productivity and competitiveness.
The SME Enhance scheme is active until 31 December 2026, contingent on the availability of funds, with a total budget of €6,000,000. Grants under this scheme range from a minimum of €10,000 to a maximum of €128,400, including a 7% flat rate to cover indirect costs associated with the investment. Eligible undertakings include micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises engaged in economic activities, irrespective of legal form, with specific provisions for start-ups. Enterprises without legal personality under national law must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (CAP 16 of the Laws of Malta).
