Funding available for Food Security Initiatives in Nunavut (Canada)

Deadline Date: April 07, 2026

The Nunavut Food Security Coalition is now accepting funding proposals for projects aimed at addressing food insecurity in Nunavut in 2026-2027.

The program focuses on food security projects that develop targeted support for those facing household food insecurity, promote Inuit food sovereignty by sharing skills and knowledge of how to safely obtain and/or prepare traditional foods, progress programs that help alleviate poverty, and other food projects that support Nunavummiut in building essential food skills, encourage joint learning of food and life skills by parents and children, support hunters, and improve emergency food access through hampers or food vouchers. Core funding priorities include contributing to community food security by addressing poverty and reducing barriers to food access, supporting the core operations of food organizations to provide consistent services and programming throughout the year, and advancing programming that goes beyond emergency food relief.

Grants of up to $25,000 are available for projects that focus solely on the purchase of food items for hampers or vouchers. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, societies, businesses, and municipal organizations that are committed to strengthening community food security. Projects funded under this initiative can range from direct support to households experiencing food insecurity, to programs that build food skills and knowledge, to initiatives that ensure the sustainability and operational capacity of community food organizations.

The Nunavut Food Security Community Initiatives Core Funding Program specifically supports the core operations of community food organizations, including salaries, administration, and space rental, so that they are better positioned to deliver food security services year-round. Eligible projects under this program must reduce barriers to accessing food, address poverty, and strengthen the capacity of community food organizations to provide consistent services while expanding programming beyond emergency food relief.

This funding opportunity is designed to enhance food security across Nunavut, empower communities to share traditional knowledge, and support organizations in creating long-term solutions that extend beyond immediate food needs.
