Deadline Date: December 30, 2025
Applications are now open for Greenovation Agrivoltaics Challenge to generate evidence and demonstrate how agrivoltaic technologies can potentially benefit farmers in India by advancing climate-resilient agriculture alongside clean energy generation.
The focus of the challenge is agrivoltaics—the co-location of solar panels with crop cultivation—and its potential to improve land productivity, reduce water use, and diversify farmer income. The challenge is designed to support selected participants with comprehensive assistance to advance agrivoltaic initiatives through financial support, capacity building, technical guidance, ecosystem engagement, demonstration systems, and evidence generation for scalable approaches.
Participants can receive financial support of up to ₹5 lakh to establish and demonstrate viable agrivoltaic models, along with access to a larger pool of ₹2 crore in grants for implementation and scaling. Virtual training and capacity-building programs are provided to strengthen expertise in agrivoltaic technologies and practices, alongside technical support offering expert guidance on system design, crop selection, and optimization strategies.
The program also facilitates networking and collaboration by connecting participants with peers, experts, and key stakeholders within the agrivoltaics ecosystem. Support is extended for setting up micro-demonstration systems across priority states, contributing to practical learning and on-ground validation. A strong emphasis is placed on evidence generation to build a credible knowledge base for scalable agrivoltaic solutions in India.
Applications are invited under two tracks. Track 1 is for farmer groups, including Farmer Producer Organizations, Self-Help Groups, farmer cooperatives, and registered societies and NGOs working with farmers. Under this track, the team lead must be a practicing farmer, with clear plans for growing crops under solar structures and innovation in cropping patterns or business models.
Track 2 is open to decentralized renewable energy companies, including for-profit or non-profit entities with demonstrated technical capacity for small-scale agrivoltaics. Applicants under this track must present innovations in system design and energy use models, with a strong focus on affordability and financing models suitable for small and marginal farmers.
