Banco Santander, Norrsken and the Oxentia Foundation launch the Santander X Global Challenge | Circular Economy Revolution, a global challenge that seeks innovative companies that will transform the world by reducing waste, optimising resources and leading the transition towards a circular economy.
Categories
- They focused the challenge on four main categories:
- Recycling, recovery and reuse of materials and waste
- Companies that recover and reuse materials, reducing the use of natural resources, minimising waste and transforming it into raw materials for other activities.
- New materials, and circular products and services
- Eco-design solutions from their creation to the end of their useful life, focused on recyclability, reuse, recovery and innovation in new materials.
- New circular business and monetisation models
- Solutions that encourage the reuse and second life of products, reducing inefficiencies and creating value with collaborative and shared economy models.
- Renewable energies and smart grids
- Companies that help optimise energy use, improve distribution efficiency, the transition to renewable energies and the use of waste as an energy source.
- Recycling, recovery and reuse of materials and waste

- The Santander X community offers the most outstanding start-ups and scale-ups networking and access to the resources they need to grow.
- Connection with Fintech Station
- The winning start-ups and scale-ups will have access to Banco Santander’s open innovation team to explore opportunities for collaboration.
- Membership of Norrsken Barcelona
- One-year membership at Norrksen Barcelona with access to its activities and co-working space (up to two co-founders).
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate companies must be incorporated in one of the countries participating in the programme (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay).
- In the case of a start-up, you must fulfil at least one of the following criteria: annual income not exceeding $300,000, capital raised between $100,000 and $1 million, or between 2 and 25 full-time employees.
- In the case of a scaleup, you must fulfil at least one of the following criteria: annual income greater than $300,000, capital raised greater than $1 million or more than 25 full-time employees.
Pitch Evaluation
- If your company is selected as one of the finalists, the Global Challenge organising team will contact you to invite you to participate in the online semi-final, which will be run as a ‘pitch session’.
- In this session, you will present your company to a group of experts, who will then validate and decide on the winners of the challenge.
- You will have to prepare and give your pitch presentation in English.
