Deadline Date: January 16, 2026
Applicants are now invited to submit applications for Standards & Awards for SMEs Scheme, designed to enhance competitiveness, credibility, and operational excellence.
This initiative provides funding for advisory services that help SMEs prepare for and achieve recognized standards or national excellence awards. By participating, enterprises can align with industry best practices, promote quality, efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, and gain easier access to new markets. The scheme encourages a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in business operations, focusing on internal management frameworks rather than regulatory compliance or product-specific certifications.
The scheme supports the EU’s broader policy goal of promoting a smarter and more competitive economy through innovation and entrepreneurship. It falls under Policy Objective 1 of the SFC2021 Programme 2021–2027, which emphasizes the creation of new firms, the economic exploitation of innovative ideas, and regional ICT connectivity. The specific objective of this scheme is to enhance sustainable growth, competitiveness, and job creation within SMEs through productive investments.
The Standards & Awards for SMEs scheme will remain operational until 31st December 2026, subject to the availability of funds. The initial budget allocated for this initiative is €500,000. SMEs can apply for a maximum grant of €15,000 to cover part of their eligible costs, with the possibility of increasing the grant to €20,000 if they aim to achieve more than two standards or awards through the same service provider in a single application.
Eligible applicants include micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises engaged in economic activity, regardless of legal form, that have been actively trading for at least one year. Enterprises without legal personality under the applicable law must be registered under the Second Schedule of the Civil Code (CAP 16 of the Laws of Malta). This initiative offers a valuable opportunity for SMEs to strengthen their internal management systems, improve operational performance, and achieve international recognition that supports long-term growth and competitiveness.
