The Ocean Idea Challenge in Canada is requesting applications to support aspiring entrepreneurs, students, researchers, and professionals to develop and validate innovative solutions for ocean sustainability with funding and guidance.
The programme focuses on customer discovery, market validation, innovation, sustainable ocean industries, early-stage funding, resource access, mentorship, and network building to connect participants with potential teammates, partners, and industry leaders committed to ocean health.
Participants can secure up to $8,000 in funding to support early-stage customer discovery and project development. They will also gain access to local technology innovation hubs, expert guidance, and extensive resources to refine and strengthen their projects. The challenge encourages collaboration, knowledge exchange, and engagement with industry stakeholders to help accelerate solutions that address pressing ocean sustainability issues.
The challenge is open to students passionate about ocean innovation, mid-career professionals seeking to pivot or contribute to sustainability efforts, academic or independent researchers focused on ocean sustainability, technical developers and talents eager to apply their skills, and aspiring entrepreneurs looking to validate and grow business ideas in this sector.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside in Canada, and past participants may only apply if they are validating a completely new idea. Challenge Statements from industry will be shared in coming weeks to inspire participants and guide them toward impactful opportunities in the ocean sector.
