The FINCA Ventures Prize Competition supports African entrepreneurs with innovative business models or technologies that create meaningful impact for low-income and underserved communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The program focuses on two key categories: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems, and Fintech for Financial Inclusion. It prioritizes entrepreneurs who scale solutions strengthening agrifood value chains, improving outcomes for farmers and the environment, and addressing access to sustainable inputs, financing, agricultural knowledge, irrigation, mechanization, digital tools, climate and weather-related information, insurance products, post-harvest management, market access, and offtake opportunities. In Fintech for Financial Inclusion, it seeks founders rethinking financial services through innovative digital-first channels to provide access to financial resources, increase financial literacy, and unlock productivity for underserved populations, including savings products, insurance, productive-use credit, digital banking, and embedded finance.
Eligible companies must have at least one African founder, be for-profit, post-revenue, operational for no more than five years, and active in Sub-Saharan Africa. Participants must be willing to travel to San Francisco, with costs covered by FINCA, to present to a panel of judges and attend the awards ceremony and reception.
Finalists in each category can receive grant awards of up to $100,000 depending on placement as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. The prize is designed to accelerate the growth of ventures with high potential for social and economic impact.
Through this program, entrepreneurs gain exposure to investors, mentoring, and global networks while advancing solutions that directly benefit low-income populations and underserved communities. By fostering innovation in sustainable agriculture and digital financial services, FINCA Ventures promotes scalable solutions that strengthen local economies and improve livelihoods.
The competition provides an opportunity for emerging businesses to showcase their work, attract resources, and expand their impact across Sub-Saharan Africa while building credibility and recognition for their innovations.
