Deadline Date: March 19, 2026
The United Nations Development Programme is seeking applications to promote inclusive and innovative insurance solutions that strengthen financial resilience, protect underserved communities, and support sustainable development outcomes.
The primary focus areas of the Insurance Innovation Challenge Fund include resilient households, communities and countries, businesses, nature and food systems, the promotion of innovative and inclusive insurance models targeting underserved populations, leveraging technology, new distribution channels, and partnerships, enabling local insurers and private sector actors to develop tailored products and services, and sharing insights and guidance materials to replicate successful models globally. The initiative emphasizes inclusive insurance, risk financing mechanisms, governance, advocacy, research, and evidence-based practices.
UNDP’s Insurance and Risk Finance Facility aims to harness the power of insurance to strengthen financial resilience, particularly for vulnerable populations, communities, and ecosystems, by developing inventive insurance solutions and services. In Uganda, the program, supported by the German government, targets market barriers in micro-insurance and seeks to scale sustainable, commercially viable insurance solutions.
The Insurance Innovation Challenge will use a hackathon format to crowdsource innovative ideas from diverse participants and co-create solutions that address challenges such as health shocks, climate risk, business risk, and nature-related risk. The challenge builds upon the existing InsureX program by leveraging accelerator training and regulatory sandbox testing to support local insurers in piloting and scaling solutions.
A firm will be recruited to manage the end-to-end design and implementation of the Insurance Innovation Challenge Hackathon, including organizing the event, coordinating participants, and supporting the development of inclusive insurance products. Vendors engaged by UNDP must meet eligibility requirements, including not being suspended, debarred, or ineligible under any UN organization or international body, and must have the legal capacity to enter a binding contract and deliver services in Uganda.
