The Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) Prize Competition is an annual initiative designed to support and empower entrepreneurs across Africa who are creating impact and building sustainable businesses.
Africa’s Business Heroes is dedicated to identifying, supporting, and inspiring the next generation of African entrepreneurs who are driving positive impact in their communities, addressing pressing challenges, and contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
The initiative welcomes applications from entrepreneurs across all African countries, sectors, and age groups, provided their businesses are formally registered, headquartered, and primarily operating in Africa with at least three years of proven market traction. Applications are accepted in both English and French.
The top finalists benefit not only from financial support but also from extensive exposure through professionally produced video features, media coverage, and collaborations with influencers that showcase their entrepreneurial journeys and the impact they are creating in their communities.
Grant funds of up to $300,000 are awarded through the competition. The top 10 finalists share a prize pool of $1.5 million in grants ranging from $100,000 to $300,000. The winner receives $300,000, while the first runner-up and second runner-up receive $250,000 and $150,000 respectively. The remaining seven finalists each receive $100,000. In addition, an extra $100,000 is allocated to support global immersion training for the finalists.
The program also offers mentorship from global business leaders, investors, and industry experts who provide one-on-one guidance during and after the competition. Participants benefit from practical training programs covering areas such as financial management, marketing, intellectual property law, investment readiness, and strategies for business growth.
Entrepreneurs who apply also gain valuable insights during the application process itself, as it encourages them to refine their storytelling, pitching, and business strategies while receiving feedback from experienced professionals.
To be eligible for the competition, applicants must be the founder or co-founder of the business, be an African citizen or a direct descendant of an African citizen, and operate a company that is registered and headquartered in an African country. The business must also demonstrate at least three years of revenue and market traction.
